Stravinsky’s music for Firebird is a masterpiece of narrative, color and orchestration. The legendary Firebird of complex, powerful and victorious characters.

Many Russian legends have as their heroes men who are simple, naïve, devoid of all malice and it is they who are always victorious over characters that are clever, artful, complex, cruel and powerful. Prince Ivan is one such hero.

A ballet story about a fantastic and magical bird, a brave Prince, a beautiful Princess, fabulous monsters, much of it naïve, but all of it theatrical in the way fairy tales are meant to be.

Magicians, Tigers, Horses, Showgirls, Acrobats and of course, a clown, forlorn in his love for a Ballerina.  This new ballet does not intend to be anything but a suite of dances, reflecting a circus show with a surprise here and there.  The music of Dmitri Shostakovitch is full of melodies and simple tunes, a gift in our complicated times.
