Dance Advance

The Dance Advance program is an extension of Learning Through Dance. This program provides students who demonstrate a talent for dance with an opportunity for accelerated learning. Ballet Idaho identifies students from the Learning Through Dance program that exhibit talent and a special interest in dance and gives them an opportunity to participate in Dance Advance during their 4th grade year. Priority placement is given to talented students who are considered at-risk due to economic or social challenges. These students participate in specially designed dance classes, enabling them to explore formal dance instruction without the pressure of being mainstreamed into Ballet Idaho’s regular Academy classes. Dance Advance students attend classes taught by Ballet Idaho Academy staff for one academic year, perform at the annual Academy recital and are provided with dance clothing at no cost to the student. Students also have an opportunity to audition for participation in performances of Ballet Idaho’s professional dance company. Recently, Dance Advance students have performed in Don Quxiote and The Nutcracker. Dance Advance students are also given two tickets to attend three professional ballet performances at the Morrison Center in Boise.

The objectives of Dance Advance are 1) to provide high quality dance training to underserved populations, 2) to provide performance opportunities for Dance Advance students and 3) to provide Dance Advance students access to professional ballet performances.

A community outreach program designed primarily for low-income students with demonstrated talent, musicality and a high level of motivation to participate in dance. Students are offered rehearsal clothing and a one-year scholarship to the Ballet Idaho Academy of Dance. Students are selected during school residencies.
